The Gold Rush created cultural diversity for California and the west.  People from all over the world flocked to California especially after word got out that gold was found at Sutters Mill and the area around present day Sacramento.  You may find the links below helpful in creating articles for your newspaper.  You may also go beyond the ones available and research about anything you have learned about the Gold Rush.  Make sure that as you are researching that you use the citation link to create your biblography as you go along.
